TMobile (USA) Minutes Used Firefox Extension Wish List

Here is a wish list:

  1. display billing cycle
  2. option to disable the "go to tmobile billing site" link (double click and right click pop-up menu)
  3. option to set the http timeout (for users with slower connection)
  4. display text message usage. I need someone with text message service to confirm that it can be retrieved from TMobile's Web site and help me get account access temporarily.
  5. Some users complained that they always got 0 minute used even though they could see minute usage on the "See minutes used details" site from the billing site. this problem is traced to the fact that TMobile's web site does not update their billing site https://my.t-mobile.com/Billing correctly. if you check the minute usage meter on the right, you will notice it shows 0. I could instead use the "See minutes used details" site to retrieve the minute usage information. However, I haven't figured out what the URL is. (As simple as it sounds, it's difficult to figure it out because it's a dynamic URL created by a bunch of Javascripts. Maybe someone can help me with this.)
  6. I have also got many requests to write a similar extension for other cell phone carriers. I would be happy to do that except I myself only has TMobile account. It's impossible for me to write and test the extensions for other cell phone accounts. Sorry about this, unless someone wants to share his/her account information with me temporarily. If so, please leave a note here with your contact information. (Update: I have written a new extension for Verizon. It can be found here.)

It's working in firefox 1.5 rc2 just fine here in WinXP.

Any chance you'll expand this extension to show multiple accounts? Possibly next to each other in the status bar?

In any event, it looks good.

when you say "show multiple accounts", did you mean multiple phones belonging to the same family account, or totally separated accounts? the latter can be done but may not look that useful...

Collecting message count status isn't something easily available, like the amount of minutes used. It's several levels down in the system. One has to dive down into the billing section, then go view the 'minutes used details'. On that page is tells you the current quantity used (together with a whole bunch of other information which I'm sure you also have on your account (sans the messaging part.)) It's just burried down.

Where's the source? Is it open? I'd like to work on one for Sprint usage. Thanks, Glen.

it's open source. in fact, the source is in the extension you downloaded already. after all, it's only javascript and xul files.

Ok, i've looked at the source and compared it to the way Verizon works, and it seems like it should be pretty easy for someone (that is, someone who knows more what they're doing than me) to make the switch -- even just tweaking the existing version with new URLs and new regular expressions. the main difference is, it won't be able to say "minutes used / minutes available", as the verizon account page doesn't really tell you how many are available -- but that's not too big a deal, since the user probably knows. also, it would be really easy to also say (for instance, in the tooltip) "in" minutes used, off-peak, in/offpeak, and text message usage.

i've saved the source (as text) of both the login page and the account info page; that may even tell you enough to do what you need to the code.

Hey Winston,
Was looking around to see about a verizon extension and saw that you posted an update and that you had written a verizon extension but the link in your blog page where you mention that doesn't work, it says not available for windows...

Here is a wish list:

is possible to list any missed calls or list current text message?

This is just great nifty extension. I found this via a pc Mag article. Thanks for your hard work.

The imagination and the creativity on this extension is over the edge. Keep it up, & thanks a bunch.
